Capping line inspection and reject-system planning
Define the closure fault, prove it is detectable and agree what the line should do when a suspect pack is found.
Start with the defect set, not the sensor.
A sensor or vision system can only detect conditions that create a reliable measurable difference. List the defects that matter, build representative challenge samples and evaluate the method under realistic line speed, container variation and background conditions.

Make the reject path traceable and fail-safe for the agreed risk.
- Place inspection far enough upstream to track the pack to the reject point.
- Define how product pitch is maintained through variable-speed or stop/start conditions.
- Select a reject method suited to pack weight, stability and line speed.
- Confirm that the rejected pack reached the secure reject location.
- Define reject-bin-full, air-failure and confirmation-failure responses.
- Prevent rejected packs being mixed back into accepted production.
- Test normal packs and challenge samples during FAT and site acceptance.
The appropriate architecture depends on the product risk and site quality system. Inspection can strengthen process control but does not guarantee that every possible closure defect will be detected.
Questions buyers ask
Can a sensor detect every loose cap?
No. Some torque or thread-engagement defects have no reliable external signature, so the required defect set and method must be validated.
What are challenge samples?
They are controlled examples of the defects the system is expected to detect, used to test and document performance.
Why is reject confirmation needed?
It verifies that a commanded suspect pack actually left the accepted-product stream.
Can inspection be added after the capper?
Often yes, subject to available space, bottle control, tracking distance, reject access and controls integration.
What should happen if the reject bin is full?
The response should be defined by the customer risk assessment and controls philosophy, commonly an alarm and controlled stop.
